CUISEAUX
20 km from Louhans-Châteaurenaud

           Nestled at the bottom of the Jura foothills, Cuiseaux offers visitors its medieval ruins including ramparts, a fortified 12^th century gate, called the" Verger" gate, and narrow streets. 
            Throughout your walk you can also discover Renaissance houses, the Chateau of the Princes of Orange, and the 15^th century Saint Jacques chapel. The church contains 13^th century statues and 16^th century sculpted stalls.

           Cuiseaux was an important winegrowing region up until the end of the 19^th century. Today, only a few vinestocks remain on the hillsides. This house with its cellars, storage areas and barns recreates the daily life of a 19^th century winegrower.

            Just a few minutes from Cuiseaux, the villages of Joudes, Champagnat and Frontenaud still boast old fountains, wells and wash-houses. These facilities, no longer used today, provided lively meeting places for villagers in the old days.
