Built in 1680 by Claude de Thiard de Bissy, the Pierre de Bresse Chateau and its French garden have been magnificentlty preserved. The three main buildings equipped with four round towers are topped with a slate mansard roof and surrounded by moats. The Chateau has been the property of the Saône et loire County Council since 1956 and has housed an Ecomuseum since 1981.

In the various rooms of the Chateau of the Counts of Thiard built in the 17th century, the authenticity of Bresse Bourguignonne is illustrated through the natural, gastronomic and cultural heritage that it has managed to preserve. The museum presents different aspects of daily life and culture in Bresse, highlighting its history, natural environment, local arts and traditions (furniture, clothing and professions of yesteryear), along with today's economy. Eight branch museums throughout the territory of Bresse also present traditional professions. The Chateau hosts various temporary exhibitions along with a variety of concerts open to the public.
